Cancer Treatment Centers of America is one of the main national networks when it comes to cancer care. Their method is to treat the whole person, not just the tumor in a patient’s body (Bonner). Complex and advanced-stage cancer is a specialty of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (Bonner). They not only treat their patients, but provide many different kinds of support, whether it is nutritional counseling or mind-body therapy (State of Washington). The oncologists are not the only ones informed, the patients and caregivers are given as many details as possible (Bonner). Patients then know every option and can make informed decisions for themselves (Bonner). The CTCA has a process made up of approaches, evaluations, personalized care, improving patient experience, and many other components (Bonner). Bonner says that each approach targets a specific problem that the CTCA is capable of aiding with. There is the integrative approach, where the goal is to enhance their distribution of care to their patients (Woodman). In short, natural selection states that random genetic changes transpire within an organism’s genetic code, such changes are preserved because they are valuable for survival. Darwin’s ideas came from economics applied to biology. His philosophy was known as Eugenics. Eugenics was an idea was based on ways to control reproduction so that human race can better succeed, in other words, a revised sequel of Darwin’s natural selection, artificial selection. Galton understood that good advancement of mankind was let down by generous outreach to the underprivileged when such hard work motivated people to have more children. Galton sought after expanding his eugenics idealism from science to a policy and religion. This science was a form of perfecting the human race through improved reproduction. That alone should have scared people, however, it began to evolve, as Galton desired. Eugenicist aspired the development of advantageous characteristics and abolition of the adverse ones. Eugenics was seen as a means to resolve the combined problems because it located the cause in the flawed germ cells within the embryo of individuals of certain ethnic groups instead of focusing on the structure of society. Eugenicist alleged that inherited disorders with basic modes of inheritance could be construed from derivations of inheritance contained by families, such as polydactyl. Psychiatric disorders, such as manic depression, were also considered when researching inherited disorders. Geneticist understood that behavioral personality had the utmost impact on society. They assumed that people inherited a trait that made them have an affinity to be poor. This was termed as shiftlessness. Other predispositions that were deemed inherited were alcoholism and sexual immorality, which was a notion to be part of the cause to criminal behavior. In the 1920’s restrictive immigration laws were passed because eugenicist believed that undesirable traits were linked to racial and ethnic groups, which was detrimental to society. Furthermore, eugenics was incorporate by Adolf Hitler’s attempt at a master race. His barbaric behavior and massacre of Jews made the initiative of developing a master race became exceedingly ostracized. However, eugenics should not be considered eradicated from society. Some believe that the advancement and encouragement of birth control is considered a major eugenic success. It was seen as a eugenic success because of a sudden increase in population and frenzy to control this. I understand that eugenics may be intended to promote reproduction among the genetically advantaged. Therefore, in that sense I find it to be acceptable to some extent. The practices that follow this type of positive eugenics, nowadays, is slowly being accepted in society. Such as, in vitro fertilization, a couple may find this option as a gift in life. However, others may argue that adoption is always the best option when infertility is an issue. The fact that there are millions of children that do not have parents, would make me opt for child adoption. As previously mentioned, birth control is considered a eugenic success. In this area I would agree with that generalization. I find that women should take care of themselves form of eugenics that I consider eugenics negative when the attempt is to subordinate fertility amongst the genetically underprivileged. Such an example would be to have an abortion knowing that your child will have a disability. Overall, this subject matter is more complicated and thought provoking that it may seem when once introduced. However, the evolution of society has made modifications to the early eugenic standards. Oedipus Rex6 Essay 1)Oedipus Rex proves to be a tragic hero by displaying the qualities of goodness, appropriateness, and remaining consistent and realistic throughout the entire play. In the prologue of Oedipus Rex, Oedipus illustrates that he is morally good during his speech to the Priest and the suffering people of Thebes. â€Å"I know you are deathly sick; and yet, /Sick as you are, not one is as sick as I. /Each of you suffers in himself alone/His anguish, not another’s; but my spirit/Groans for the city, for myself, for you† (Prologue. 63-66). He will not rest until the people are better and Laios’ murderer is found. Another quality that Oedipus possesses is his appropriateness. He will go to great lengths to do what ever is necessary and appropriate to search for Laios’ murderer and to help save the city, which can be illustrated is this quote: â€Å"I will do all that I can; you may tell them that. /So, with the help of God, /We shall be saved-or else indeed we are lost† (Prologue, 147-149).An additional characteristic that contributes to the tragic hero of Oedipus is that he is exceedingly consistent. From the beginning of the play to the end, Oedipus is determined to figure out who killed Laios. He is consistent and will not stop until he finds the truth. Iokaste tells Oedipus to stop looking for the truth, but Oedipus will not listen. He tells Iokaste, â€Å"I will not listen; the truth must be made/known† (3. 145). The last quality that plays a part in Oedipus’ downfall is his realistic outlook. At the end of the play, Oedipus is realistic when he discovers the truth. â€Å"And now what is left? /Images? Love? A greeting even, / Sweet to the senses? Is there anything? /An, no friends: lead me away. /Lead me away from Thebes† (Exodos.171-121). He is very realistic in knowing that there is nothing left for him in Thebes. Furthermore, Oedipus realistically accepts his fate and lets Kreon become ruler. â€Å"No, For the love of God, conceal me/Somewhere far from Thebes; or kill me; or hurl me/Into the sea, away from men’s eyes for ever† (Exodos.182-184). Oedipus knows what he did is wrong and knows that he deserves to be exiled. He is realistic in his punishment. Because Oedipus Rex is such a good, appropriate, consistent, and realistic character throughout the entire play, his strengths become his weaknesses and ruin his life; Hence, the tragic hero.2)To me, I think that two themes throughout Oedipus Rex are universal. First, the theme of self-identity plays a role in this play. I think that everyone can identify with the desire to know whom he or she is, searching for his or her own self-identity. During this play, Oedipus is searching for his identity. That is why he asks the messenger who the shepherd was that had him. â€Å"Is he alive? Can I see him?† (3.126). Oedipus is searching for the truth, to find out who he really is. Now, in the year 2001, most people would need to know whom they really are and who their parents are, for a strong self-identity, just as Oedipus needed to know. Additionally, the second universal theme that is existent throughout this play is of faith in Our God.Oedipus has faith in his gods and respects them. That is why Iokaste and Oedipus consult the Oracles for truth. â€Å"O Lord Apollo! /May his news be fair as his face radiant!† (Prologue.82-83).
